Tune, Flush, Refill, Repeat: Engine Services You Cannot Do Without

Engine services encompass a variety of procedures for keeping your car's engine in top running condition. Many people, whether for expense purposes or out of ignorance of car maintenance, tend to not complete most of these services. Here are just a few of the services your vehicle absolutely cannot do without.

Oil Changes

Oil lubricates the moving parts in your engine. The used oil is channeled through a filter, leaving behind particulates inside the engine, and dropping dirty oil in the filter. If you leave this go, you end up with NO oil in the engine, tons of dirt and grime that clog the engine's moving parts, and nothing to lubricate the parts. This makes the engine overheat and seize up.

Flushes

The engine gets flushed, the radiator gets flushed, and the transmission gets flushed. In layman's terms, this means that everything is scrubbed clean through the flushing, similar to what city plumbers do to main sewer lines to clear them of clogs and disgusting messes. If your engine, transmission, and radiator are going to keep functioning for a long time to come, they have to be flushed annually. If you have never had them flushed before, the first time has to be done by your mechanic, and then quick service places can do them the following year.

Tune-ups

Tune-ups involve removing spark plugs and replacing them, checking the timing and serpentine belts and tightening them, and cleaning the carburetor so that your car starts properly. Anything you do yourself to these parts of the car after an initial tune-up can count as maintenance. The first procedure on every vehicle should be done by a mechanic, especially if your car has never had a tune-up before either.

Fluid Refills

How many car fluids can you name? If you are like most car owners, probably two, maybe three at best. There are at least seven; power steering, radiator, oil, transmission, windshield, brake, and battery. (Yes, batteries have fluid in them!) All of these fluids should be checked at least every other month. They should be checked more often if you drive your vehicle all over the country for business.

If you are too busy, you can have the fluids checked and refilled by a quick-lube place. It does not take more than twenty minutes to a half hour to complete. You could easily have this done while grocery shopping at a store nearby. Visit a site like http://59autorepair.com/ for more help.
